Richardt Ferreira 11-2-1994

Richardt is currently in grade 9 in Hangklip High School in Queenstown and is one of the top academic performers in his grade.

He started cycling in 2004 at the age of 8.

Received numerous “Sportstar of the Week” and “Sportstar of the Month” awards in the local newspaper and at school.

Richardt is very dedicated and wants to succeed in everything he does. His cycling coach is the current Olympic team coach, Leon Scheepers.  He enjoys very technical XC races with lots of downhills and going at maximum speed.

 

CURRENT MOUNTAIN BIKE:

Giant XTC Composite (med);  SRAM X0 shifters and SRAM X9 derailleur; Mavic Crossmax SLR wheels, Eggbeater steel pedals; Ritchey WCS and Easton components , Rockshock Sid Race fork, Sella Italia SLR saddle; XTR crank set and XTR disc brakes, total weight 9.7kg

 

CYCLING CAREER

Richardt dominated the Provincial XC and half marathon scene since 2004 in his age category, receiving Border colours every year. He won all the local races in his age category.

Provincial XC and Marathon champ: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and current

 

 

STRONG POINTS

Very determined to succeed and never gives up. A very hard worker and natural sportsman. 

  

HIGHLIGHTS

2005

One of three members of u/12 team that won the SA u/12 road cycling title at the Eric van Enter competition.

2006

SA Road and Time Trial Championship (u/12) – 6th position in time trial and 7th position in road race.

2007

Mazda Drifter National Half Marathon Series – finished 3rd overall in u/14. Won the Pretoria leg of the series and after that got 2nd and 3rd places.

2008

Won the Cross Country Championship leg in Pretoria and constantly 2nd place during the rest of the year.

Eric van Enter road race: 3rd overall in hill climb and 4th overall in criterium.

Mondi Addo MTB Challenge (55km) : Men’s overall 5th place (although only 14 years old!)

2009

Garmin MTB Challenge (65km) – 4th place overall after David George, Kevin Evans and Jason Reed.

Overall winner in Daily Dispatch 46km Road Race.

Amashova National U16 Cycle Tour: 10th overall  position (being only first year u/16) and 4th White Jersey position.
