CLick Here if you want to purchase a Garmin Edge 305!

There are 2 ways to get the routes you have downloaded from this site onto your Garmin Edge 305 cycling GPS.

  • Creating a Route
  • Using the Course (.crs) File
Creating a Route:

  1. Open the .gdb file with MapSource
  2. Open your routing preferences Edit>Preferences>Routing
  3. Set your route style to "Use Direct Routes" and set Vehicle to "Bicycle" and Apply.
  4. Click on the tab on the left called Tracks
  5. Right Click on the track name and select "Show selected track on map"
  6. Choose the Route Tool (right next to the little green flag for waypoints)
  7. Click on the start waypoint
  8. And then place yourself a few route points along the track to the end point.
  9. When done, right click and choose cancel.
  10. Open the route tab on the left and right click on the new route
  11. Choose route properties
  12. Un-check Auto Name and type a new name for the route
  13. Now is a good time to save your file.
  14. Then connect your GPS via the USB cable.
  15. Now, click on the little button in the centre to of the screen that says "Send to Device"
  16. When asked make sure "Routes" is checked, and click "OK".
  17. Now the route should be on your GPS.
  18. To access it on the 305, go to navigation, and select routes.
  19. Select the name of your route and select navigate.
  20. Jump on your bike and ride!!
  21. The unit will point in the direction of the start
  22. And when you reach the start it will point in the direction of the next route point.
  23. This will happen each time you get to a route point, until you reach the end.
Using the Course (.crs) file

  1. Open Training Centre and import the course File>Import>Course.
  2. Open the courses tab and check that the file name is listed.
  3. Connect your 305 via the USB cable.
  4. Click on the Send to Device button and make sure "courses" is checked.
  5. Now the course should be on your GPS.
  6. To access the course on your GPS switch it on.
  7. Open the training option and select courses.
  8. A list should appear, choose the course loaded.
  9. Jump on your bike and press start!
The course file is the better option to use, because the full route, bend-by-bend is shown on your GPS, and at any time when you go off course your GPS will kick up a fuss and warn you that you are going in the wrong direction. It will also suggest a direction to go into , to get back on track!
