Getting There:

Get yourself to Stellenbosch, in the Western Cape. It lies about 40km North-East of Cape Town. Then find your way to Merriman Drive, this street runs straight up the centre of the town. Drive up it in a Easterly direction until you get a large traffic circle. Don't go left or right, take the most straight option through it. The road will start heading South-East when it becomes Martinson Street. Keep on going on this road for about 7km. The road stops at the car entrance to Jonkershoek.

Route Description:

This is one of the best mountain biking areas in South Africa! It is safe. It is surrounded by mountains. There is gravel road, jeep track, single track and some built jumps for the extremists! And all of this in between hundred year old pine trees!
There is a multitude of route options that can be chosen in this area, but this route takes you along the main gravel road loop, and then up the mountain side for some serious climbing, and then down one of it's slopes that could just as well have been in the alps! Steep, twisty, Fast!
One nice thing about this area is: you will never get hopelessly lost, as the surrounding mountains always give a frame of reference of where you are, and they kind of keep you boxed in.
So go! Try and get lost!
